Oral Ceramics Dental Laboratory

Mark Rankin, CDT and Owner of Oral Ceramics Dental Laboratory, is a 1985 graduate of the University of Kentucky Dental Laboratory Technology program certified in two specialties:  Fixed Prosthodontics and Ceramics.  He is a Member in Process in the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry and recent member of the Northern Kentucky Study Club and Southwest Ohio Study Club.  He also participates in many hours of continuing education with some of the top technicians and clinicians in the dental community.

Mark founded Oral Ceramics Dental Laboratory, LLC in 1991 as a small, quality orientated laboratory specializing in anterior restorations:  all-ceramic, implant or porcelain fused to gold.  We have significant experience working with all-ceramic and implant restorative cases, from the challenging single unit anterior case to the large full arch restorative case.  We also have considerable knowledge and experience in shade analysis, a strong understanding of comprehensive treatment planning, expertise in esthetics and a strong technical background.

We learned a long time ago that to be the very best you have to learn from the best and exceed expectations.  With the ever-changing climate and materials in dentistry, we stay current in the latest trends and materials.  Excellence always endures.

To ensure the best treatment and quality restoration for the patient, we employ a scheduling system.  Much like you schedule a certain number of procedures per day, we schedule time for a certain number of restorations per day.  Cases should be scheduled at time of patient acceptance, prior to preparation for best turnaround time.  Diagnostic/Treatment Plan wax-ups are strongly recommended for anterior and larger cases.

IPS e.max Lithium Disilicate Pressable

IPS e.max from Ivoclar-Vivadent is the closest to a universal material that exists in dentistry today.  It is more durable than layered zirconium oxide and much kinder to the opposing dentition when compared to monolithic zirconium oxide.  Because of the high strength of 400 - 500 Mpa, which is unmatched by any other glass-ceramic, bonding or conventional cementation methods can be used.  It can be stained in the monolithic state, cut back and layered, or practically any combination of the two techniques.

Feldspathic Veneer Restorations

Fabricated with a powder buildup on a refractory material.  Can be some of the most esthetic restorations in dentistry.  Fits are good.  Color is excellent.  Strength is very good when bonded.  Mainly used in anterior veneer restorative cases.

Layered Zirconium Oxide Restorations

Used mainly for large anterior bridgework where e.max cannot be used.  Can be used for severely stained anterior preparations.  Can be used in certain screw-retained anterior situations.

Monolithic Zirconium Oxide

Used in posterior where esthetics is not a major concern.  Is a very good material for anterior custom implant abutments.

Porcelain Fused to Gold Restorations

Tried and true restorative material for over 50 years.  Still a viable option when an all-ceramic restoration is not possible.
